pre fall

blouse: Helmut Lang
skirt: Lush
boots: OTK Yoki

Being that we haven't really had a full summer yet in N. California, I'm still sort of holding out changing my closet to fall. However, I can't help pulling a few things on that I can't wait any longer to wear. Welcome fall season. Because I am a hair stylist and have to stand on a hard wood floor for hours on end, I always fall in love with the shoe/boot that can give me some street cred. while still being comfortable. OTK (over the knee) boots still give you the length without the heel. You just have to be careful with what you pair them with, you don't want to end up looking like a pirate... or maybe you do. ;)

nail down the fall

Seeing this trend coming out everywhere on runways like the Tibi Fall 2011 show and magazine pages, its easy to get caught up in this simple pop of color. Since it's not quite fall and summer in San Francisco is just starting, I made a mix between two bright colors (Koala Bear-y by OPI and Japanese Koi by China Glaze) to create a soft pre fall tone.
Create this look by painting a layer of base coat on your nails. once that is completely dry take your first color (whichever you like) and paint a thin line across the edge of your nails. Once dry follow up with a second line of the other color and let dry completely. Lastly, paint a layer of clear coat over everything. Done!

camping 101

So this weekend was camping. Beautiful spot in La Honda California just north of the Santa Cruz mountains. If you want to get away from the city, this place is it. Huge trees, super lush landscape, peacocks roaming around, and your favorite friends hanging out in tents for a couple days. This is the life. Although I live my life in beauty and fashion, there are a couple ground rules to camping. Everything must be able to get wet and/or dirty and you are absolutely not allowed to be the one hogging the bathroom because you are putting on makeup. I hear myself loud and clear, but... i have a few tricks to make sure i don't look completely washed out and tired.

Dry shampoo (plus hair elastics). This miracle product is sort of the holy grail of lazy hairstyles. Not only will it sop up some excess oil, but it will add some needed texture to your hair so that you can easily whip it up into a messy bun or keep it tied in a sporty side braid. Tinted moisturizer with SPF. If you’re spending a lot of time outside, you’ll definitely need to boost your sun protection at every opportunity. The small amount of tint will help even out your skin tone and give you a little color. Cleansing wipes. At the end of the day, you just want to wipe the makeup, sweat, sunscreen, and campfire smoke off your face and hit your sleeping bag. You may not even need to stumble your way to the dismal outhouse facilities to do it. Concealer and blush. You can cover up any trouble areas with a little concealer and give your complexion some colour with a cream or gel blush that you can rub in with your fingers.Leave behind: Foundation. This is too time-consuming and just screams “makeup!”, especially in the natural light of day. Your eyelash curler. You’ll give your eyes some natural-looking definition and if you decide to take a dip in the lake, you won’t need to worry about any smeary side-effects. Tinted lip balm with SPF. You’ll get a bit of colour and moisture while also shielding your lips from the sun.

Such a nice day out today! I'm still in an LA mood after this weekend, I'm slowly moving my wardrobe into fall colors and tones and layers, San Francisco gets cold so quickly. I have to use my brighter colors and shorter pieces while i still can. This weekend is camping in the Santa Cruz mountains. Marshmallows, day hikes, and great friends. So exciting.

Fall colors

As summer winds down and the fall fashions start coming through, it's time to start thinking deeper hues and richer undertones. Of course these are colors for clothing, however, always wanting to the next thing, i'm thinking why not stop there? Hair color can definitely create a wave of newness to any upcoming season. I'm still in love with the ombre dyed highlights, adding a little color just keeps it current. Check out this seasons colors and the inspirations behind them.

I heart LA

I love LA. Sunny pool days and club hopping nights. I know you can do this everywhere in the world, and I try to every chance I get, but there is something special about LA. Maybe its the people, the weather, or just the die hard fashion with the laid back feel of Cali. Thank you for a great weekend, see you next weekend.

Gypsy not so traveler

Top: Hiyori tokyo
shorts: american apparel
boots: frye
vest: layendecker
necklace: owl

I woke up this morning with the fog behind me outside. As I was sitting and reading, little by little the sun was coming out and warming the room up. Something about the soft rays of light and knowing i was going to be in the sun all day made me think of a gypsy boho look. A few staples go into this look. The middle parted wavy hair, headband or floppy hat (or both), soft billowy top, and boots made for walking.

stripes and color

i love stripes with color. Red is of course my favorite, but blues and cool tones are pretty great also. I wish i had taken a picture of today in the salon. My friend and fellow stylist Nicole and I came into the salon with the same outfit on. Striped shirt, skinny jeans, and red flats. Must be that kind of day!
